287. Continuation on fallacious priest

Verse 287

கேட்பாரே (உலக) தாரை உடல் பொருள் ஆவித்தான்

கிருபையுடன் தந்துவிட்டால் சண்ணுவான்பின்

கேட்பானே சோமன் சோடாடு மாடு

கிருபையுடன் கொடுத்தவருக்கு வருத்திச் சொல்வான்

கேபானே பெண்டிர்க்குச் சேலை பூசல்

கிருகையிலே தவறாத புத்தி சொல்வான்

கேட்பானே வேதாந்தம் பாரா சந்தம்

கிருபையுடன் வேதம் சொல் உரைசொல்வானே

Translation:

He will ask the body soul and material for the people

If granted mercifully he will fight

After that he will ask for the soman, footware, goat and cattle

He will tell for those who gave them, after torturing them,

He will ask for sari and flower and ornaments for women

If granted, he will advise without fail

He will talk about Vedanta and chandas

He will explain the Vedas with a commentary.

Commentary:

This is also a verse on the fallacious priest who poses as an evolved soul.  Such a person will ask for a lot of material things from the worldly.  He will fight with the people demanding them.  For those who gave the things he will trouble them greatly and say the five lettered mantra.  He will ask for sarees, flowers and other ornaments for the women (in his household).  He will greatly advise those who bring them to him.  He will perform upanyasa on Veda, Vedanta and explain them greatly.  This idea is continued in the next verse.

மேற்கூறிய பொய் குருக்களைப் பற்றி இப்பாடல் தொடருகிறது.  அத்தைய குருக்கள் மக்களிடம் அவரது உடல் பொருள் ஆவி அனைத்தையும் பறிக்க முனைவான்.  மக்களுடன் சண்டைபிடித்து அவற்றைப் பெறுவான்.  மக்களிடம் தானமாக பல பொருட்களை- பாதணிகள், ஆடுமாடுகள், பெறுவான்.  அவர்களுக்கு பெரும் தொல்லை தந்தபிறகு அவர்களுக்கு ஐந்தெழுத்தைக் கூறுவான்.  பெண்களுக்காக சீலை, ஆபரணங்கள் கேட்பான்.  அவற்றைக் கொண்டு வந்தவர்க்கு பெரிதாக அறிவுரை கூறுவான்.  வேதம் வேதாந்தம் ஆகியவற்றைப் பற்றி விளக்கமாக உபன்யாசம் செய்வான்.  இந்தக் கருத்து அடுத்த பாடலிலும் தொடர்கிறது.
