313. No need to roam around like a merchant

Verse 313

கொட்டினது ஏதாலே என்றால் மைந்தா

குணமாக வையகத்தோர் பிழைக்க வேண்டி

வட்டிமேல் விட்டனடா புலத்தியனே ஐயா

மந்திரத்துக் கைந்நூறு முன்னே சொன்னேன்

தட்டினால் பேசுமடா சத்தி ஜாலம்

சாற்றினேன் ஆயிரம்தான் தயவுள்ளோர்க்கு

செட்டிகனைப் போலவும் நீ திரிய வேண்டாம்

தேசத்தில் நூல் தேடி தெரிந்து ஆடே

Translation:

Son, if you ask why I poured it,

It is for the benefit of the people of this world,

I left it on loan/circle, Sir, Pulatthiya!

I said the five hundred for the sake of mantra

The magic of sakti will speak if tapped

I uttered the thousand for the humble, the merciful,

You need not roam around like a merchant

In the country, seeking the book, dance with knowledge.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar says that he has  composed this work for the benefit of all the people in the world.  He has he given it out on ‘vatti’.  This term generally means loan.  However, the term ‘vattipu’ means circle.  Hence, this may mean that Agatthiyar has placed it over the circle, the sahasrara where one gets the ultimate wisdom of oneness.  He then adds that he has talked about the mantra in five hundred. It is not clear whether this is a separate book or five hundred verses in this book.  We will never know it now as only 350 verses are available to us. He says that if one taps then the “sakthi jaalam” will speak.  This means the Sakthi will reveal the truth.  He reiterates that this book of thousand is for those who are humble and have mercy in their hearts and tells Pulatthiyar that he need not roam around the world like a merchant looking for goods, the goods here is book on wisdom, but to dance with knowledge as he has been given the meijnanam.

அகத்தியர் தான் இந்த நூலை உலக மக்களின் நன்மைக்காக இயற்றியதாகவும் அதைத் தான் வட்டிமேல் விட்டதாகவும் கூறுகிறார்.  வட்டி என்ற சொல் பொதுவாக பணத்தை ஒருவருக்குக் கொடுத்து அவரிடமிருந்து வட்டி வசூலிப்பதைக் குறிக்கும்.  வட்டிப்பு என்ற சொல் வட்டம் என்று பொருள்படும்.  அகத்தியர் இச்சொல்லை வட்டிப்பு என்ற பொருளில் பயன்படுத்தியுள்ளார் என்றால் அது அவர் மெய்ஞ்ஞானத்தை வட்டத்தின்மேல் வைத்துள்ளார் அதாவது சஹாஸ்ராரத்தில் வைத்துள்ளார், யாரொருவர் அந்த உயர் விழ்ப்புணர்வு நிலையை அடைகிறார்களோ அவர்க்கு அது கிடைக்கும் என்று பொருள்படும்.  அவர் மேலும், தான் மந்திரங்களை ஐந்நூறில் கூறியுள்ளதாகவும் சொல்கிறார்.  இந்த நூலின் ஐந்நூறு பாடல்களிலா அல்லது வேறொரு ஐந்நூறு பாடல்கள் கொண்ட நூலிலா என்பது நமக்கு விளங்கவில்லை ஏனெனில் இப்பாடல் தொகுப்பிலிருந்து நமக்கு 350 பாடல்கள்தான் கிடைத்துள்ளன.  தட்டினால் சக்தியின் ஜாலம் பேசும் என்று கூறும் அகத்தியர் தான் இந்த நூலை தயவுள்ளோர்க்காக இயற்றியுள்ளதாகக் கூறுகிறார்.  இந்த நூல் இருப்பதனால் புலத்தியர் பொருள் தேடி அலையும் செட்டியாரைப் போல திரிய வேண்டாம், இதைப் படித்துணர்ந்து ஆடலாம் என்று முடிக்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
