303. The triple flames

Verse 303

முச்சுடர்

மாலையிலே வாலை தனை மகிழ்ந்து பூசி

மகத்தான காலையிலே சிவனைப் பூசி

சாலையிலே நடுச்சாலை நடந்து பாரு

சதா நித்தம் பூரணத்தில் சார்ந்து நில்லு

வாலையிலே முக்கோண வாலை பூசி

மந்திரத்தில் எட்டெழுத்தும் மகிழ்ந்து வாசி

மூலையிலே சுழிமூலை மூலை மூலை

முச்சுடரும் உதயம் அங்கே விழித்துப் பாரே

Translation:

Worship the vaalai in the evening, happily,

In the glorious morn worship Siva

Try to walk in the middle path

Remain eternally associated with the fully complete

Worship the vaalai in the triangle

Among the mantra utter the eight letters,

Among the terminus the terminus of the whorl, the terminus, the terminus

The three flames are emergent there, see with eyes wide.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar says worship Sakthi or vaalai in the evening and Siva in the morning.  The middle path is the sushumna nadi.  Agatthiyar tells Pulatthiyar to walk in this middle path and to remained associated with the state of supreme consciousness.  He tells Pulatthiyar to worship the vaalai in the triangle.  The three spots where triangles are present are the muladhara, the ajna and the sahasrara.  The eight letter mantra is aum namacivaya or aim kleem sau namacivaya, the mantra of Siva and Sakthi.  Then he says terminus three times.  They indicate the three spots the muladhara, the ajna and the sahasrara.  The three flames are the sun, moon and fire.  They are present in the muladhara, they join in the ajna and then travel to the sahasrara.  Thus, Agatthiyar tells Pulatthiyar to focus on three important spots. 

அகத்தியர் புலத்தியரிடம் மாலையில் வாலையையும் காலையில் சிவனையும் பூசிக்குமாறும் நடுப்பாதையான சுஷுமுனை நாடியில் விழிப்புணர்வை நடுத்துமாறும் எக்காலமும் பரிபூரணத்தைச் சார்ந்திருக்குமாறும் கூறுகிறார்.  வாலைபூசையை முக்கோணத்தில் மேற்கொள்ளுமாறு அகத்தியர் கூறுகிறார்.  இது மூலாதாரம், ஆக்ஞை, சஹஸ்ராரம் என்ற மூன்று சக்கரங்களையும் குறிக்கிறது. அடுத்து எட்டெழுத்தை மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் பூசி என்கிறார் அவர்.  எட்டெழுத்து என்பது அ உ ம நமசிவாய அல்லது ஐம் கிலீம் சௌ நமசிவாய என்பதாகும். மேலும் அவர் மூலை என்று மூன்று முறை கூறுகிறார்.  அது மூலாதாரம், ஆக்ஞை, சஹாஸ்ராரத்தைக் குறிக்கும். மூலாதாரத்தில் மூன்று சுடர்களான அக்னி, சூரியன் சந்திரன் தோன்றுகின்றன.  அவை ஆக்ஞையில் சேர்கின்றன, சஹாஸ்ராரத்தில் முடிகின்றன.  இதைத் தான் அகத்தியர் இங்கே குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.
