357. Like the cloth placed on a stone, like an arrow released from a bow

Verse 357

சொல்லுவேன் புலத்தியனே நன்றாய்க் கேளு

சூக்ஷமடா மருந்துரைக்கத் துலையா தப்பா

கல்லு மேல் வேட்டிவைத்த வாறு போலக்

கசடர் முதல் யாவருக்கும் காணச் சொல்வேன்

வில்லில் நாண் ஏற்றிசரம் விடுத்தாப் போல

விரும்புவேன் மெய் விரும்பும் மௌனத் தோர்க்கு

இவ்விடத்தில் இருந்தால்என் மலை போனால் என்

இன்னதென்று அறியாத பாவிதானே

Translation:

I will say Pulatthiyar, listen well,

It is very subtle, it will not leave even if a medicine is prescribed for it

Like placing the waist cloth on a stone

I will say it in such a way that
even the faulty can see it

It will as pointed as if releasing an arrow from the bow

I will tell this to the silent ones who prefer the truth

It does not matter if one remains here or goes to the mountains

One who does not know this is a sorry one.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar says that he will reveal this knowledge to Pulatthiyar in such a clear fashion that it will be as if washing the lower cloth by placing it on a stone.  Clothes are traditionally washed by beating them on a stone so that the dirt leaves it.  Agatthiyar revealing this knowledge will remove the faults like the stone removing the dirt.  The manner in which will reveal this knowledge will be so focused, pointed as if an arrow is released from a bow.  It will hit the target accurately.  Unless one knows what Agatthiyar is teaching it does not matter whether one remains as a householder or a renunciate retired to the hills for penance.

புலத்தியரிடம் அகத்தியர் தான் இந்த அறிவை தெளிவாகக் கூறுவதாகவும், அது கல்லின் மேல் இட்ட வேட்டியைப் போல் இருக்கும் என்றும் கூறுகிறார்.  கல்லில் இட்டு தோய்த்த வேட்டி அழுக்கற்று இருக்கும்.  அகத்தியர் அளிக்கும் ஞானமும் அவ்வாறே உள்ளத்து அழுக்கைக் களையும்.  அது வில்லிலிருந்து விடுத்த அம்பைப் போல தனது இலக்கை சரியாகச் சென்று அடையும்.  இந்த அறிவை ஒருவர் பெறவில்லை என்றால் அவர் இல்லத்தவராக இருந்தாலும் கவலையில்லை, மலைக்குச் சென்று தவம் புரிபவராக இருந்தாலும் கவலையில்லை, அவர் ஒன்றும் அறியாத பாவிதான் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
