350, 354. incomplete yet interesting verses

Verse 350

வழியேது புலத்தியனே அறிவுள்ளோனே

வாள் இறங்கி வகுந்த சிரம் பொருந்துமோ தான்

ஒழி ஏது வானில் இடி சார்ந்து தானால்

உத்தமனே உயரமுமே நிற்குமோ சொல்

விழிக்கூடிச் சுழி நாடி சிக்கினோர்....

Translation:

Where is the way, Pualtthiya?  The wise one!

The head cut by a sword, will it fit again?

If thunder occurs in the sky, where is the relief

Will anything tall stand there?

Those who got caught in the whorl with their eyes merging…

Commentary:

This is an incomplete verse.  Agatthiyar tells Pulatthiyar that a head cut off by a sword cannot be fitted again.  Anything tall will not stand if the thunder occurs in the sky.  This is an interesting comment which shows Agatthiyar’s scientific knowledge, that anything tall will be hit by the lightning which accompanies thunder.  He continues this thought by saying that when a person gets caught in the whorl with his eyes merging. We do not know what he wished to say here.

இப்பாடல் முழுவதும் கிடைக்கவில்லை.  வாளினால் வெட்டிய தலையை மீண்டும் ஓட்ட வைக்க முடியாது என்றும் இடி இடிக்கும்போது உயரமான எதுவும் நிற்காது என்றும்  புலத்தியரிடம் உதாரணமாகக் காட்டும் அகத்தியர்,  கண்ணை நிலை நிறுத்தி சுழியில் நிறுத்தினோர் என்று எதையோ கூறத்தொடங்குகிறார். 

Verse 354

... நீயானால் ஞானத் தோடு

மின் நூலாய் அண்டாண்ட பதங்கள் எல்லாம்

மேவி நின்ற சாம்பவியைக் காண வேணும்

தென் நூல் போல் வடமொழியில் சாட்சி வைத்தேன்

செத்தாலும் மோக்ஷம் உண்டு இந்நூல் பாரே

Translation:

… you search for wisdom

As the thread like the lightning, the Sambhavi

Who remains pervading all the universes, the loci

I kept proof in Sanskrit as is in Tamil

Even if you die, there is moksha, see this book.

Commentary:

This incomplete verse is interesting.  It says that Agatthiyar has composed works in both Tamil and Sanskrit.  He says that he has displayed the proof in both the southern book and in the northern language, which is Sanskrit.  Sambhavi refers to Mother Sakti.  It may also be referring to the Sambhavi mudra which is one of the important mudhras the siddhas recommend.  It seens as if this mudra will grant vision of all the worlds, universes.

இந்தப் பாடலும் முழுவதுமாகக் கிடைக்கவில்லை.  ஆனால் இதிலுள்ள வரிகள் ஒரு முக்கியமான செய்தியைக் கூறுகின்றன.  அண்டங்களைஎல்லாம் ஆளும் சாம்பவியை ஒருவர் காணவேண்டும் என்று தொடரும் அகத்தியர், இதற்கான சாட்சியை தான் தென்மொழியில் அதாவது தமிழில் எழுதிய நூலிலும் வடமொழி நூலிலும், அதாவது சமஸ்கிருதத்தில் எழுதிய நூலிலும் வைத்துள்ளதாகக் கூறுகிறார்.  இதனால் அகத்தியர் வடமொழி, தமிழ் ஆகிய இரண்டு மொழிகளிலும் நூல்களை இயற்றியுள்ளார் என்று தெரிகிறது.  ஞானத்தைத் தேடும் இந்த முயற்சியில் பாதியிலேயே மடிந்துபோனாலும் மோக்ஷம் கிடைக்கும் அதனால் இந்த நூலில் கொடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளவற்றை கவனமாகப் பார்க்கவேண்டும் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
