205. They consider other lives as their own...(வாடிய பயிரைக் கண்டபோதெல்லாம்...)

Verse 205

காணப்பா எவ்வுயிரும் தன்  உயிரைப் போல

கரிசனங்கள் படுவார்கள் வதை காணார்கள்

பூணப்பா இக்குருவைக் கண்டாயானால்

பொற்பூவால் அர்ச்சித்துப் பூசை பண்ணு

தோணப்பா அவர் இடத்தில் தொண்டு செய்தால்

சுவர்க்க கைலாயமதில் தொண்டுக்கொக்கும்

ஊணப்பா வார்த்தை அவர் எடுத்தா.....

Translation

See son, they will consider all lives as their own

They cannot see others suffer

Son, If you see this guru,

Worship him with golden flowers

Consider son, that if you serve such a guru

It is like serving in the Kailayam

Commentary:

Agatthiyar praises the good guru in verse.  He says that this category of gurus will consider all lives as their own and will not tolerate to see any soul suffering.  One is reminded of Saint Ramalingar’s expression “vaadiya payiraikkandapothellaam veedinen’ in Tiruvarutpa where he says he swooned whenever he saw crops that were drooping, his heart panicked whenever he saw simpletons who could not satiate their hunger through begging for food and when he saw people suffering from diseases.  Worst of all he become emaciated whenever he sees those who, with dignity, starve without begging or seeking help from others.  This Tiruvarutpa verses captures the emotions that Agatthiyar says that a good guru possesses.  Agatthiyar further adds that when one sees such a guru one should worship him sincerely and service to him is like service to Lord Siva himself.

ஒரு நல்ல குருவைப் பற்றி இப்பாடலில் மேலும் தொடருகிறார் அகத்தியர்.  இத்தகைய குருக்கள் தன் உயிர் போல் பிற உயிர்களைக் கருதுவர்.  இது ராமலிங்க அடிகளாரின் “வாடிய பயிரைக் கண்டபோதெல்லாம் வாடினேன்” என்னும் திருவருட்பா பாடலை நினைவுக்குக் கொண்டுவருகிறது.  அப்பாடலில் அடிகளார் நீரில்லாமல் துவளும் பயிரைக் கண்டால் தானும் துவளுவதாகவும் இரந்து பெற்ற உணவாலும் பசியடங்கா மக்களைக் கண்டபோதும் நோயால் துன்புறுபவர்களைக் கண்டபோதும் தமது உள்ளம் பதைத்தது என்றும் ஏழைகளாக இருந்தாலும் மானிகளாக வாழ முனைந்து இளைத்தவர்களைக் கண்டு தானும் இளைத்ததாகவும் கூறுகிறார்.  இத்தகைய மனப்பான்மையை உடைய குருக்களைக் கண்டால் அவரைப் பொன்னால் செய்த பூவால் அர்ச்சனை செய்யவேண்டும், அதாவது மிக உயர்ந்த பெருமையை அளிக்கவேண்டும் என்றும் அவருக்குச் செய்யும் தொண்டு மகேச்வரனுக்குச் செய்யும் தொண்டைப் போன்றது என்றும் அகத்தியர் கூறுகிறார்.
