219. Markandeya's comment

Verse 219

இன்னவகை ஈசன் அவர் கேட்கும்போது

எல்லோரும் வாய் மூடி இருந்தார் அப்போ

சொன்ன வகை தனை அறிந்து மார்க்கண்டேசன்

சொல்லுவான் குழந்தை அவன் கல்வி என்ன

அன்னை தனை முகம் பார்த்து மாலை நோக்கி

அரிஅரி ஈசர் மொழிக்குரை நீர் சொல்வீர்

பிள்ளைவகை யார்உரைப்பார் மாய மூர்த்தி

பேசாமல் இருந்துவிட்டால் ஒழிவார் எங்கே.

Translation:

When Isa asked so

Everyone remained speechless.  Then

Markandesan, knowing the concepts,

Said, the child, look at his education!

Seeing the face of mother and looking at Maal

Hari Hari, you will answer the question, explain them,

Who will describe the types, Maya Murthy

If remained speechless, where will they go?

Commentary:

Following Siva’s questions in the previous verse Agatthiyar tells us that everyone remained speechless.  Looking at this Markandeya, the young boy, saw the face of the mother, Sakti and said to Vishnu, “Please explain the concepts that Isa asked about.  If everyone remains speechless where will people go?”.

முந்தைய பாடலில் ஈசன் கேட்ட கேள்விக்கு ஒருவரும் பதிலளிக்காமல் மௌனமாக இருந்தனர்.  இதனைக் கண்ட மார்க்கண்டேயன், சிறுவன் ஆனால் மிகுந்த அறிவுள்ளோன், விஷ்ணுவைப் பார்த்து, “ஈசன் கேட்ட கேள்விக்கு பதிலளிப்பீர்.  இல்லாவிட்டால் மக்கள் எங்கே போவர்?” என்று கேட்டான்.
