6. Work from a rishi that Agatthiyar condensed

Verse 6

பாரப்பா இரண்டு லக்ஷம் காப்பு தன்னை

படித்தெழுத வென்னில் நாலாயிரமும் பத்தாம்

சீரப்பா இவ்வளவும் வயித்திய நூல் முத்தும்

செப்பினேன் வாதமத்தில் லக்ஷம் காப்பு

பேரப்பா தொகை சொல்வேன் நன்றாய்க் கேளு

பெருநூலை வேதரிஷி கொடுத்தான் ஐயோ

சாரப்பா அதைக்குறுக்கிப் பன்னீர் நூறு

தப்பாமல் அதைக் குறுக்கி இருநூறு பாரே  (6)

Translation:

See the two lakh kāppu

            To copy it, it is four thousand and ten

These are the complete medical texts

            I told in the vāda one lakh kāppu

Hear well, you, I will tell about the total count,

            Veda rishi gave the great book, Oh!

This is condensed into twelve hundred

            This is further condensed to two hundred   (6)

Commentary:

This gives the total count of the medical texts.  The work with four thousand and ten is said to be the summary of these.  Agatthiyar says that he got a great medical treatise from a rishi which he condensed into twelve hundred which was further condensed into two hundred.
