327. Devi dances to relieve troubles

Verse 327

காரப்பாபுலத்தியனே கம்பக் கூற்று

காசினியோர் மெச்சும் இந்த கருணைக் கூத்து

சீரப்பா மூவர்களும் ஐவர் காண

தீரப்பா அண்டபகி ரண்டாம் எல்லாம்

திடுக்கிடவே கம்ப கரு நெல்லிக் கீழே

பேரப்பா சதுர்முகத்தோன் கொலுவின் மீதே

பிறங்கு தொல்லை தீர்க்க வந்தால் பேதை தானே.

Translation:

Contemplate Pulatthiya!  The dance of the movement/pillar

This merciful dance appreciated by people of this world

Grace, Son, seen by three and five

Siva Sivaa!  With the Devas and Munis witnessing it

With the universes and worlds

Shocked by it, under the black gooseberry tree, pillar/movement

See it in the assembly of the fourfaced one

The innocent one, came to relieve all of their troubles.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar says that the dance of Devi is the dance of mercy.  He explains why at the end of the verse.  He says that she dances so with the three and five as witnesses.  The three may be the holy triad of Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra.  The five may be the five divine manifestations, five states of consciousness.  The “karu nelli” is again the sushumna nadi which is called as “nelli maram” by the Siddhas.  Agatthiyar says that this dance occurs in the court of the four faced one.  It is either Brahma who manages creation or the four faces of Siva.  Then Agatthiyar says why this dance occurs.  It is to relieve everyone of their miseries.  The greatest misery of all is life in this world, where souls are mired in delusion and hence tensions.  Devi dances to relieve everyone of this misery so that they would understand their true nature and life a realized life.

தேவியின் நடனம் கருணைக் கூத்து என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.  தான் ஏன் அவ்வாறு சொல்கிறோம் என்று அகத்தியர் இப்பாடலின் கடைசியில் கூறுகிறார்.  தேவியின் நடனத்தை மூவரும் ஐவரும் காண்கின்றனர், தேவரோடு முனிவரும் காண்கின்றனர் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.  மூவர் என்பது பிரம்மா, விஷ்ணு, ருத்ரனைக் குறிக்கும்.  ஐவர் என்பவர் இறைவனின் ஐந்து வெளிப்பாடுகளாக இருக்கலாம்.  கருநெல்லி கீழே என்பது சுழுமுனை நாடியின் அடியான மூலாதாரமாகும். இந்த நடனம் நான்முகனின் சந்நிதியில் நடைபெறுகிறது.  நான்முகன் என்பது பிரம்மாவையோ சிவனின் நான்கு முகங்களாக இருக்கலாம்.  இந்த நடனம் உலகின் தொல்லைகளைத் தீர்ப்பதற்கு என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
