286. More on fallacious priest

Verse 286

உலகோர் பிரமிக்கக் கண்ணை மூடி

ஓம் நம சிவாயமென்று தியானம் செய்வார்

கலகோரை தெட்சணை தாம்பூலம் கேள்ப்பான்

கருத்துடனே நல்முகூர்த்தம் போகுதென்பார்

அலகோரை விரதம் யார் என்று கேட்பான்

ஆராரிவார் பேர் வாரும் என்பன்

இலகோரைக் கைபிடித்து திரைக்குள் வைத்து

எழுத்தஞ்சும் அவர்க்குரைத்துப் பொருள் கேட்பாரே

Translation:

With everyone looking at them with wonder, they will close their eyes

And perform dhyana as om nama sivaya

He will ask for money (dakshina) and betel leaf (thamboolam) offerings from the troublesome

He will say the good times are passing

He will ask people “Who is performing austerities?”

He will say, “All those people come here”

Holding them by hand and keeping them behind the screen

He will utter the five letters and ask for money and materials.

Commentary:
This is a continuation of the previous verse.  A false priest (the actions seem to be that of a priest than a guru), will close his eyes and chant namacivaya as if he is a sincere priest.  He will tell people that the muhurtha is passing and so those who are performing the vrata should come forward.  He will take them by hand behind a screen and utter namacivaya as a mantra deeksha and ask them for money and materials.

பொய் குருக்களைப் பற்றி இங்கு அகத்தியர் மேலும் கூறுகிறார்.  கண்ணை மூடிக்கொண்டு தியானம் செய்வது போல நமசிவய என்று முணுமுணுத்து விட்டு “இங்கே யார் விரதம் செய்யப்போகிறார்?” என்று உலகோரைப் பார்த்துக் கேட்பார்.  அவர்களை அருகில் அழைத்து ஒரு திரை மறைவில் நமசிவாய ஐந்தெழுத்தை அவர்க்கு மந்திர தீட்சை என்று ஓதி அவரிடம் பொருள் தருமாறு கேட்பார்.
