292. Pulatthiyar's request

Verse 292

கண்டுகொள்ளச் சொன்னீரே வேத வேதா

காரணத்தால் பூரணத்தைக் காணச் சொன்னீர்

பண்டு கொள்ளச் சொன்னீரே மௌன யோகி

பார்த்தோர்க்கு ஏச்சாமே பரத்தின் கூறு

தொண்டுபண்ணிக் கேட்க வந்தேன் கும்ப வாழ்வே

சொல்லுவீர் வெளித் திறந்து சொல்லுவீரே

                 

Translation:

The essence of Veda!  You told me to realize this,

You told me to see the fully complete with the help of the cause

The Silent Yogi!  You told me to accept it

For those who have seen, the nature of the Param without verbally abusing it,

The Life of Kumba!  I have come to you to ask about this after serving you,

Please tell, revealing it openly, please tell.

Commentary:

Pulatthiyar addresses Agatthiyar as the essence of Veda, that which is know by Veda, as the silent yogi and the glorious life of kumba.  He requests Agatthiyar to explain to him about these concepts, revealing the secretly openly, about Param or the Divine.  He tells how to obtain such a esoteric knowledge from a guru.  One has to serve the guru satisfactorily and then request him to explain the secrets.

புலத்தியர் அகத்தியரை வேத வேதா, அதாவது வேதத்தினால் அறியப்படுபவர், கும்ப வாழ்வு, மௌன யோகி என்று அழைத்து அவரிடம் இந்த ரகசியங்களை விளக்குமாறு கேட்கிறார்.  தான் அவருக்கு பணிவிடை செய்து இவற்றைப் பற்றிக் கேட்பதாகவும் அகத்தியர் இவற்றை வெளிப்படையாகக் கூறவேண்டும் என்று புலத்தியர் அவரை வேண்டுகிறார்.
