290. A jnana guru will tell you to go to yoga and about soil and water

Verse 290

மாட்டுவான் உலக குரு மயக்கம் செய்து

மாளமட்டும் கிரியையிலே மாளச் சொல்வான்

காட்டுவான் அந்த மொழி வேதச் சொல்லில்

கண்டு நீ மகிழாதே குருவைத் தேடு

சூட்டுவார் ஞானகுரு வந்தாரானால்

சொல்லுவார் கிரியையெல்லாம் தள்ளச் சொல்லி

பாட்டிலே இவர் அனந்தம் பாட்டுச் சொல்வார்

பசுந்த மண்ணின் தண்ணீரின் பயன் சொல்வாரே

Translation:

The worldly guru will catch one deluding like this

He will ask one to engage in kriya until death

He will show proof from Veda

Do not rejoice seeing those words, search for the guru

When the jnanaguru comes,

He will say the truth, asking one to push away the kriya

He will say several verses

He will tell the use of fresh soil and water.

Commentary:

The worldly guru is not capable of telling the truth about pati, pasu and pasam.  He only knows about rituals and how to survive or live in a grand fashion.  He will advise people to spend their lifetime in performing rituals or kriya.  He will show sections from the Veda to prove his point.  Agatthiyar advises Pulatthiyar to not listen to such gurus but to seek a true guru. However, a jnana guru, when he is found and approached, will not behave so.  He will advise the seeker to push away kriya and go after the truth.  He will sing several verses to put his point across.  This makes one wonder whether Agatthiyar is hinting that he is a jnana guru as he is the one singing these verses!   Agatthiyar says that such a jnana guru will explain the truth about fresh soil and water.   We have already seen that water represents the seminal fluid and the soil is the womb, the woman.

உலக குரு பசு பதி பாசம் என்பதைப் பற்றி ஒன்றும் அறிய மாட்டார்.  அவர் உலக மக்களை கிரியையை மட்டும் சாகும்வரை செய்துகொண்டிருக்குமாறு கூறுவார்.  தனது வார்த்தைகளுக்கு வலுவேற்ற அவர் வேதவாக்கியன்களைக் காட்டுவார்.  அந்த வார்த்தைகளைப் பார்த்து மகிழ வேண்டாம், சரியான குருவைத் தேடு  என்று அகத்தியர் புலத்தியரை/நம்மை எச்சரிக்கிறார்.  தேடலுக்குப் பிறகு தகுந்த ஞான குரு வாய்த்தால் அவர் கிரியையைத் தள்ளிவிட்டு யோகத்துக்குச் செல்லுமாறு கூறி பல பாடல்களைப் பாடுவார் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.  இவ்விதத்தில் அகத்தியர் தான் ஒரு ஞானகுரு என்று நமக்குக் குறிப்பால் உணர்த்துகிறாரோ என்று தோன்றுகிறது! அந்த ஞான குரு பசும் மண் தண்ணீர் ஆகியவற்றைப் பற்றிய உண்மையைக் கூறுவார் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.  தண்ணீர் என்பது ஆணின் விந்துவையும் மண் என்பது அந்த விந்து வளரும் இடமான கருப்பையையும் குறிக்கும் என்று நாம் முன்னமே பார்த்தோம்.
