259. An example of Siddha's 'not so politically correct' conversation

Verse 259

உள்ளோரே என்குருவே சிவமே ஐயா

உந்தனுக்குத் தெரியும் அல்லால் எவரும் காணார்

கள்ளோரே ரவிக்கை இட்டுச் சேலை மூடி

கண் காட்டும் மாதரை நான் கண்டு பொங்கி

தள்ளாடி நின்றதினால் மோகம் போமோ

சட்டமாய் ரவிக்கைதனை அவிழ்த்துக் கையால்

உள்ளாடைஅவிழ்த்து விழுந்தால் தீரும்

ஓ ஓ ஓ கண்டதினால் தீரா தென்றே 

Translation:

The who is remaining, My preceptor, Sivame, Sir!

You know it and none see it

The deceitful one! Covering with a blouse and sari

And winking their eyes, when I stand enchanted watching such women 

With the desire go away?

Removing the blouse by hand, properly

Loosening the undergarment, if it falls, the desire will be satisfied

O O O mere sight will not satiate it.

Commentary:

This verse is an example of how the Siddhas speak in ‘not so politically correct’ terms sometimes.  Pulatthiyar addresses Agatthiyar as “my preceptor, Sivam or supreme consciousness, and my Lord”.  He says that only Agatthiyar is conscious of these principles and no one else has experienced them.  To convey his conviction that experience is more important than theoretical knowledge, Pulatthiyar says that mere sight of a beautiful woman will not satisfy the desire but one has towards her.  He should take her clothes off and experience her beauty directly.  This verse shows us that none of the man-made boundaries control a Siddha, be it socially accepted behavior or norm.  They never shy away from speaking the truth.

சித்தர்கள் எவ்வாறு சில சமயம் அதிர்ச்சியடையும் வகையில் பேசுவார்கள் என்பதற்கு இப்பாடல் ஒரு சான்றாகும்.  எனது குருவே, சிவமே, ஐயா என்று அகத்தியரை அழைக்கும் புலத்தியர் அகத்தியர் ஒருவர் மட்டுமே இந்த சூட்சுமத்தை உணர்ந்தவர் என்றும் வேறு ஒருவரும் இவற்றை அறித்தார் இல்லை என்றும் கூறுகிறார்.  தனது இந்தக் கருத்தை வலியுறுத்தும் வகையில் அவர் சேலையையும் ரவிக்கையையும் அணிந்துகொண்டு கண்ணைக் காட்டி பிறரை அழைக்கும் மாதர், அதாவது விலைமாதுக்கள், ஒருவருள் தோற்றுவிக்கும் மோகம் அவரைக் கண்டால் மட்டும் போகாது அவரது ஆடையைத் தளர்த்திப் பார்த்தால்தான் தீரும் என்று கூறுகிறார்.  சாதாரண மக்களைக் கட்டுப்படுத்தும் எந்த தளைகளும், அவை சமுதாயம் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளும் நடவடிக்கை, பழக்கவழக்கங்கள் ஆகியவைகூட, சித்தர்களைக் கட்டுப்படுத்துவதில்லை.  அவர்கள் உண்மையைக் கூற அஞ்சுவதில்லை என்பது இப்பாடலின் மூலம் புலப்படுகிறது.
