265. See the dance of the whorl

Verse 265

சுத்திப் பார் ஞானமது எங்கே என்று

சுழன்றலைந்துப் போகாதே சூக்ஷம் கேளு

வித்திப் பார் பிரகஸ்பதிபோல் பிறப்பை தானும்

வீசுமடா நோட்டத்தில் காணும் உண்மை

பத்திப் பார் அதுவல்லோ சூழின நாட்டம்

பாடரிது ஞானமிது பரிந்து நாட்டே.

Translation:

Whirling, see where wisdom is.

Do not lose yourself spinning and roaming around, listen to the subtlety

Plant the mind firmly and see creation like Bruhaspathi

It will blow, the truth will become visible up on noticing

Hold it and see, this is the dance of the whorl

It is the wisdom that is hard to sing about, establish it with interest.

Commentary:

As a continuation of the previous verse, Agatthiyar tells Pulatthiyar to ‘sutru’ and see where the locus of wisdom is present.  ‘Sutru’ means both roam around and spin.  Agatthiyar is advising Pulatthiyar to spin through the wheels, the cakras- make the consciousness roam around through the cakras and try to locate the site of wisdom. However, Pulatthiyar is not to lose himself roaming too much or whirling too much.  In the previous verse Agatthiyar mentioned ‘if the rice is overcooked it will lose its taste’ that is indulging in kundalini yogam too much is not good.  Hence, with control Pulatthiyar is to look for the site of wisdom and identify it with the help of mental eye.  Then the play of creation, the dance of the kundalini the whorl will become visible.  Agatthiyar is advising Pulatthiyar to plant this experience, the hard to describe phenomenon within himself with interest.    

முந்தைய பாடலின் தொடர்ச்சியாக அகத்தியர் இப்பாடலில் புலத்தியரை ஞானத்தின் இருப்பிடத்தைச் சுற்றிப் பார்க்குமாறு கூறுகிறார்.  இங்கே சுற்றுவது என்பது சக்கரங்களில் விழிப்புணர்வை மேவச் செய்து உணருவது.  ஆனால் இந்த முயற்சியில் சுற்றி அலைந்து தன்னை இழந்துவிடவேண்டாம், பயனற்று விழிப்புணர்வை பயணிக்கச் செய்யவேண்டாம், தேவையற்ற இலக்குகளை அடைய முயற்சிக்கவேண்டாம், என்று அகத்தியர் அவருக்கு அறிவுறுத்துகிறார்.  இதைத்தான்  முந்தைய பாடல் ‘சோறு அளிந்தால் ருசிக்காது’ என்று அவர் கூறினார்.  இவ்வாறு மனக்கண்ணால் ஞானத்தின் இடத்தை நோக்கினால் அது சுழி அல்லது குண்டலினி சக்தியின் நடனம், உலகப் படைப்பு அதன் காரியம் என்பது புலப்படும்.  இந்த அறிவு வார்த்தைகளுக்கு அப்பாற்பட்டது.  இதை உணர்ந்து ஆர்வத்துடன் இந்த உணர்வை தன்னுள் நாட்டிக்கொள்ளுமாறு அகத்தியர் புலத்தியருக்கு அறிவுறுத்துகிறார்.
