263. How to benefit from Meijnanam

Verse 263

எண்ணி எண்ணி காவியத்தை எடுத்துப் பாரு

எந்நேரம் தர்ம சிந்தை இதிலே நோக்கு

பண்ணி பண்ணி பல குட்டி போட்டால் என்ன

பதியானைக் குட்டி ஒரு குட்டி ஆமோ

சண்ணி உண்ணி இந்த நூலை நன்றாய்ப் பாரு

சக்கரமும் அக்ஷரமும் நன்றாய்த் தோன்றும்

தண்ணி என்றலைந்தால் தாகம் போமோ

சாத்திரத்திலே பிறந்து தள்ளி ஏறே

Thinking about it repeatedly take out the kavya and look at it.
Dharmic thoughts at all times, see here,

How does it matter if a pig yields several offspring?

Will it ever become equivalent to an elephant cub?

Contemplating deeply look at this book carefully

The cakra and the akshara will appear clearly.

Will thirst be quenched if roamed around saying thirsty?

Being born in sastra, push away and climb.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar tells Pulatthiyar how to benefit from the knowledge that this book offers.  He tells Pulatthiyar that he should think deeply, hold on to dharmic thoughts and read this book to understand the great principles.  To drive home the idea of how important this book is, Agatthiyar says it with an example.  Even if a pig sires several piglets none of them can become equivalent to a single elephant cub.  It is the not the mere number but the quality that matters. Similarly, even if there are several books in this field none can equal the meijnanam. 

Further, Agatthiyar says that when one reads this book carefully the akshara and the cakras will appear clearly.  However, merely wishing for this experience is not enough to attain them.  One has to take the effort and pursue them.  Merely uttering “thirsty” will not quench the thirst. One has to drink water to satify the need. 

The last line in this verse is interesting.  It says “being born in sastra, push away and climb’.  Agatthiyar tells us that this knowledge is found in the sastra or meijnanam is the sastra or the text which offers this knowledge.  One should learn it first.  However, one should not stagnate there but move to the next level, the level of actual experience, and ascend the sushumna nadi, ascention of consciousness. 

இந்த நூலினால் எவ்வாறு பயனடைவது என்று அகத்தியர் புலத்தியருக்கு இப்பாடலில் கூறுகிறார்.  ஆழ்ந்த சிந்தனை நோக்கோடு தர்ம சிந்தனையுடன் புலத்தியர் இந்த நூலைப் படிக்கவேண்டும்.  அப்போதுதான் இதில் கூறப்பட்டவை புரியும் என்றும் அவ்வாறு படித்தால் சக்கரங்களும் அக்ஷரங்களும் புலப்படும் என்றும் அகத்தியர் கூறுகிறார்.  இந்த நூல் எவ்வளவு முக்கியம் என்பதைப் புலப்படுத்த அவர் ஒரு பன்றி பல குட்டிகளை ஈன்றாலும் அவை ஒரு யானைக் குட்டிக்கு ஈடாகாது, அதாவது, பல நூல்கள் இந்த நூலில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ள விஷயங்களைப் பற்றிப் பேசினாலும் அவை மெய்ஞ்ஞானத்துக்கு ஈடாகாது என்று கூறுகிறார்.  ஆனால் இதில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ள விஷயங்களைப் புரிந்துகொள்ள ஒருவர் விசுவாசத்துடன் முயற்சி செய்ய வேண்டும்.  தாகம் என்று கூறினால் மட்டும் தாகம் அடங்காது, நீரைத் தேடிக் குடித்தால்தான் தாகம் அடங்கும் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர். 

இப்பாடலின் கடைசி வரி ஒரு முக்கியமான கருத்தைக் கூறுகிறது.  “சாத்திரத்தில் பிறந்து தள்ளி ஏறு” என்று அகத்தியர் கூறுகிறார்.  அதாவது இந்த நூலில் கூறியுள்ள கருத்துக்களின் அடிப்படை சாத்திரம் அல்லது மெய்ஞ்ஞானம் தான் சாத்திரம், அதில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ள கருத்துக்களைப் படித்து, அத்தோடு நின்றுவிடாமல், புத்தக அறிவைத் தள்ளிவிட்டு நேரிடை அனுபவத்தைப் பெற முனைய வேண்டும்,  சுழுமுனை நாடியில் ஏற வேண்டும்,  விழிப்புணர்வை மேல் நோக்கி ஏற்ற வேண்டும் என்று அவர் கூறுகிறார்.
