271. Those who respect this book and those who don't

Verse 271

சதுரான சதுர்முகத்தோன் வாறு போல

சாமி என்று கூறிவந்தார் இது சொல்வார்கள்

கதிரோனும் கங்கை எம் காசியோர்கள்

கண்டாலும் இந்த நூலைக் கருத்துள் வைப்பார்

முதிராக முதிர்ந்தோர்கள் கண்டா ராகில்

மோசம் என்றே முப்பாழில் பதனம் செய்வார்

பதரான பதர்அலைதான் கண்டாராகில்

பாதையிலே அவிழ்த்து வைத்துப் படிப்பார் காணே

Translation:

A guru like the expert Four-faced one

If he comes as a guru, as a Lord, and he will tell this.

The sun, the ganga and my residents of Kasi

If they see this book, they will keep it in their mind

If those who are completely mature see this,

They will preserve it in the triple paazh carefully saying, “otherwise only destruction”

Only the useless folks, chaff, those who roam around uselessly

If they see it, they will open it on the road and read it.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar says that great souls will understand the value of the knowledge revealed in this book, meijnanam.  The underserving will not know how to handle it.  He says that Surya, Ganga and those who reside in Kasi will keep this book always in their mind.  Surya is said to be the store house of knowledge.  One may recall the episode in Ramayana where Anjaneya followed Surya and learned everything from him.  He was awarded the title nava vyakarana panditha.  Ganga represents Divine grace.  Ganga flowing into this world represents Divine grace flowing into the macrocosm, the universe and the microcosm, the human body (through the sahasrara).  The word Kasi means,’the city of light’.  This represents the ajna cakra.  Thus, the term, residents of Kasi, means those who have raised their consciousness to the ajna cakra.  Thus, Agatthiyar says that those who know the value of this knowledge will keep it in their minds at all times. 

Those who are spiritually mature will realize that if this knowledge falls in the hands of the undeserving it will lead to destruction.  Hence, they will preserve it in the triple spaces or muppaazh.  We saw details about the muppaazh in verse 223.  It is only the stupid people who do not the know the value of this book who would open it in the road, a place that is not sacred, and read it or share it with everyone.  Thus, Agatthiyar is telling us that this book, the meijnanam, should be treated with due respect, read with reverence and the ideas contemplated up on with humility and maturity.

அகத்தியர் இப்பாடலில் மெய்ஞ்ஞானத்தின் பெருமையைப் பேசுகிறார்.  நல்லாத்மாக்கள் இந்த நூலில் மதிப்பை அறிவர், பதர்கள் இதை எவ்வாறு பயன்படுத்துவது என்பதை அறியமாட்டார்கள் என்கிறார் அவர்.  சூரியன் அறிவுக்கு அதிபதி என்று கருதப்படுகிறார்.  ராமாயணத்தில் அனுமன் சூரியனை ஏழு நாட்கள் தொடர்ந்து சென்று கற்கவேண்டியவை அனைத்தையும் கற்றார், நவவியாகரண பண்டிதன் என்ற பெயரைப் பெற்றார் என்று காணப்படுகிறது.  கங்கை நதி தேவ கங்கை என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறாள். உலகில் காணப்படும் கங்கை நதி தேவகங்கையின் மூன்றில் ஒரு பங்குதான் என்று கூறுவர்.  இவ்வாறு கங்கை நதி இறைவனின் அருள் இவ்வுலகில் இறங்குவதைக் குறிக்கிறது.  காசியில் உள்ளோர் என்று சான்றோரை அகத்தியர் குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.  காசி என்பதற்கு “ஒளி பொருந்திய நகரம்” என்று பொருள்.  காசி கங்கைக் கரையில் உள்ள நகரம் மட்டுமல்ல, அது இறைவனின் அருள் குண்டலினி அக்னி என்னும் நெருப்பாற்றின் கரையில் உள்ள ஆக்ஞா சக்கரமாகும்.  அதனால் காசியில் உள்ளோர் என்பது தமது விழிப்புணர்வை ஆக்ஞா சக்கரத்துக்கு எழுப்பியவர்களைக் குறிக்கும்.  இவ்வாறு உலகில் சான்றோர் என்று கருதப்படும் அனைவரும் இந்த நூலில் கூறியுள்ள கருத்துக்களைத் தமது மனதில் எப்பொழுதும் நினைத்தவாறு இருப்பர் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
