270. Those who are hungry should eat this gruel of wisdom

Verse 270

தூக்கிப் பார் கையிலே இந்த ஞானம்

சுருக்கமது தான் அறிந்து சொக்கி ஏறு

ஆக்கி வைத்தேன் ஞான திரு பொங்கலப்பா

அர அரா பசியாளி அறிந்து உண்ணு

போக்கிரிக்கோ பாடி வைத்தேன் இந்த நூலை

புண்ணியர்க்கு லபிக்குமிது பொய்யற்கில்லை

சாக்கிரிகள் செய்யவென்றால் குருவைக் காரு

சதுர்முகன்போல் குரு நிலைத்தால் இது சொல்வாரே

Translation:

Evaluate this jnana and see it

Knowing the essence climb with enchantment

I cooked the gruel of the sacred wisdom

Ara araa!  The one who is hungry consume this with understanding

Did I sing this work for the troublesome?

It will be fruitful only for the fortunate not for liars

If you want to do the procedures approach a guru

If you get a guru like the four-faced one he will explain this.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar tells Pulatthiyar that this book is for those who have the hunger for realization.  It is not for liars and charlatans but only for the deserving.  However, if one wishes to follow the procedures recommended in this book Agatthiyar advises that one should do under the supervision of a guru.  Only a guru can explain the procedures clearly and make sure the disciple is performing them in an error- free safe manner.  Agatthiyar says that if one is fortunate to get a guru like the four-faced one, Brahma, then one will be granted all the knowledge.

இறையுணர்வைப் பெற வேண்டும் என்ற பசியுள்ளோர்க்கே இந்த நூலைத் தான் பாடியதாகக் கூறும் அகத்தியர் இந்த தெய்வீக பொங்கலை பசியுள்ளோர்கள் அறிந்து உண்ணவேண்டும் என்கிறார். ஆனால் இதில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ள சரியை கிரியைகளை செய்யவிரும்பும் ஒருவர் தகுந்த குருவின் மேற்பார்வையில்தான் இதைச் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று அவர் கூறுகிறார்.  நான்முகனைப் போன்ற குரு வாய்த்தால் அவர் இந்த விஷயங்களை சரியாக விளக்குவார் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
