21. Subramanya puja-2

Verse 21

வையப்பா புலத்தியனே அறிவுள்ளோனே

மதுரக் கனி பாலும் தேன்பாகோடு

மெய்யப்பா புஷ்பமொடு தூப தீபம்

வேல் முருகே என் குருவே மெய்யே பூசை

செய்யப்பா சோடச வுபசாரத்தோடு

சிவ சிவா பூரணத்தின் செபத்தை ஓதி

ஐயப்பா பயம் தீர்ந்து சுழியில் மேவி

அர அரா ஆறுமுகம் அருள் தானெண்ணே  (21)

Translation:

Pulatthiya, the knowledgeable one! Place

            The sweet fruit, milk, honey, caramel

It is true, along with flower, fragrance, lamp

            Worship him saying ‘vel murugé

En guruve, meiyé’, perform shodasa upacharam

            Siva sivā reciting the mantra of the puranam

Quenching fear spreading over the coil

            Ara arā contemplate on the grace of ārumugam.

Commentary:

This verse also talks about Subramanya puja.  The food offerings are fruits, milk, honey, jiggery paste.  Agatthiyar instructs us to perform shodasa upachara or sixteen types of ritualistic offerings that includes fragrance, flowers and waving the lamp and reciting the subramanya mantra given in purnam with the attitude of devotion saying “vel murugé, my preceptor, the truth”

Now let us what Agatthiyar says in pooranam about Subramanya puja. 

திறனாகச் சுப்ரமணியர் செபத்தைக் கேளு

செயமாகும் எந்தனுட குருதானப்பா

அறமாக அம் உம் ஓம் ஸ்ரீம் ஈம் வம் சரவணபவ தேவையா

அறுமுகவா சிவ சுப்ரமண்யநமா என்று

உறவான அறுகோணம் நடுவே விந்து

உத்தமனே  விருத்தமொன்று வாசல் நாலு

நிறமான நால்வாசல் வீரபாகு தேவா

நிச்சயமாக வைத்து நீ பூசிப்பாயே

பூசிப்பாய் பாணமொடு சுத்தி வைத்துப்

புகழான சாதிபுட்பம் புனுகு பூரம்

ஆசிப்பாய் சுப்ரமண்யர் சித்தியாகும்

அப்பனே கேட்டதெல்லாம் அருளிச் செய்வார்....

Summary:  Subramanya is my guru, draw the shatkona with bindu in the center, four thresholds with Veerabhahu as the guard. Chant the mantra am um om shreem eem vam saravanabhava devaiyā arumugavā siva subramanyanamā.  You will worship with bhānam surrounded by glorious jati flower, musk, camphor.  Subramanyar will grant all the wishes.
