36. Pulatthiyar's question

Verse 36

சேர்ந்திட்டார் என்றுரைத்தீர் குருவே ஐயா

திருவடிக்கே நமஸ்காரம் திரும்பக் கேளீர்

கார்த்திட்டால் பன்னிரண்டு வருஷ காலம்

கடமிதுவோ கலமிதுவோ சாவு பொய்யோ

பார்த்திட்டால் இவ்வசனம் திரியச் சொல்வீர்

பரமகுரு தேசிகனே பரமே ஐயா

கோர்த்திட்டால் கோராதோ புலத்தியாகேள்

குறையேது குறையேது நிறையக் கேளே

Translation:

"Guru, Sir, you mentioned to join a guru.

Salutations to your sacred feet, listen again

If waited for twelve years

This pot, this vessel, is death (of it) a fallacy?

You are telling me to roam around so

Paramaguru, Desika, The Lord, Sir!"

"Pulatthiya! Will a question not bring an answer?

No problem, no problem ask much more"

Commentary:

Pulatthiyar is raising a very important question here.  He asks Agatthiyar what to do if death comes while serving and waiting for the guru for twelve years. Agatthiyar is happy to hear the question. He encourages Pulathiyar to ask more.

இப்பாடலில் புலத்தியர் அகத்தியரிடம் ஒரு முக்கியமான கேள்வியைக் கேட்கிறார்.  அகத்தியர் கூறியதைப் போல பன்னிரண்டு வருடங்கள் காத்திருக்கும்போது இறப்பு ஏற்பட்டுவிட்டால் இந்த ஞானத்தைப் பெறக்கூடிய வாய்ப்பு போய்விடுமே என்று புலத்தியர் அகத்தியரிடம் பணிவன்புடன் கேட்கிறார்.  அக்கேள்வியினால் மகிழ்ந்த அகத்தியர் புலத்தியனே இன்னும் கேளு என்று ஆர்வத்துடன் பதிலளிக்கின்றார்.
