49. Lingodbhavam

Verse 49

சுகமாமோ என்றுரைத்தாய் புலத்தியாகேள்

சுற்றம் உள்ள வெண் சாரை ஆறதாகும்

அகம்என்ற அஞ்செழுத்தும் இலகும் சோதி

ஆதார பீடலிங்கம் பிரம யோகி

இகம்என்ற நதி மூலம் ரிஷி மூலந்தான்

இரண்டைவிட்ட சிலம்பம் இல்லை இதுவே மூலம்

பகம்ஆன மாயையிலே சிக்காமல் தான்

பரமமான சிவபோதம் பரிந்து தேடே

Translation:

Pulatthiya!  You asked whether it will be pleasurable.  Now listen

The white rat snake (energy centres) that has associates/precincts are six

The locus/the center, the five letters will glow as the flame

The lingam and its supporting dais, brahma yogi

The origin of everything “here” is like the origin of the river and rishi (unknown)

There is no sound other than these two, this is the origin

Without getting caught in the maya, the six qualities,

Search for the supreme Siva bodham with effort.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar talked about the white rat snake in the previous verse.  Here he explains that the white sanke or "veN saarai" are the six chakras, the energy centers.  Each center is associated with various principles and is depicted as having multiple enclosures.  
The five letters of na ma si va ya are marked at the chakras as na-muladhara, ma- svadhistana, si-manipuraka, va-anahata and ya- vishuddhi.  There are some changes in this order.  Some works start with muladhara and end at ajna.  When the power of kundalini travels through the sushumna nadi piercing the chakras it travels like a snake.  The sushumna nadi is depicted as white in color to indicate satva guna.
 The chakras are considered as daises or the yoni or sakthi and the kundalini that rises through them is considered as siva.  Thus siva sakti aikya or union is the kundalini rising through the chakras.

The five letters, namacivaya is the inner flame, the sakti, that emerges through the cakras.  Together they form the atma lingam(the energy, namacivaya), with the base, peetam (the cakra).  In Saivam this is called lingodbhavam.  One may recall the episode in Linga puranam when Siva emerged as a column of flame in the presence of Brahma and Vishnu.

Agatthiyar says that the origin of the chakras is as mysterious as the origin of a rishi or a river.  Kundalini rising through the chakra makes sounds.  Siddhas mention that this process produces ten types of sounds.  These sounds are the origin of all the sounds in the world.  Agatthiyar advises Pulatthiyar to not get ensnared by the maya, the evil qualities, but to seek the Siva bodham, the wisdom about Siva, the param-the supreme.

This verse dispels the misconception about the linga worship as the worship of the phallus!  

முற்பாடலில் அகத்தியர் வெண் சாரை என்பதைக் குறிப்பிட்டார்.  இப்பாடலில்  வெண் சாரை என்பது ஆறு சக்கரங்களும்  அவற்றுடன் தொடர்புடைய பிற தத்துவங்கள் நாடிகளும் ஆகும்.  சக்கரங்களை வரையும்போது அவை பல சுற்றுக்களைக் கொண்டதாக வரைவது மரபு.  
ஐந்தெழுத்தான நமசிவய என்பதை சக்கரங்களில் குறிப்பது வழக்கம்.  ந- மூலாதாரம், ம-சுவாதிஷ்டானம், சி- மணிபூரகம், வ- அனாகதம், ய- விசுத்தி.  என்றும் மூலாதாரத்திலிருந்து ஆக்ஞா வரையிலும் அவற்றைக் குறிப்பதும் வழக்கத்தில் உள்ளது.  

குண்டலினி சக்தி சக்கரங்களின் ஊடே பாயும்போது அது பாம்பைப் போல சரசரவென்று ஏறுகிறது.  அது ஏறும் சுழுமுனை நாடியை வெண்மையாக சத்துவ குணத்தைக் கொண்டதாகக் குறிப்பது வழக்கம்.  அதனால்தான் அகத்தியர் இதை வெண் சாரை என்கிறார்.  

சக்கரங்களை யோனி அல்லது பீடம் என்றும் அவற்றின் ஊடே குண்டலினி எழுவதை சிவம் என்றும் குறிப்பிடுவது வழக்கம்.  இவ்வாறு சிவ சக்தி ஐக்கியம் என்பது சக்கரங்களின் ஊடே குண்டலினி எழுவதைக் குறிக்கிறது.  இதைத்தான் லிங்கம் காட்டுகிறது. இதுவே  லிங்கோத்பவம் எனப்படுகிறது.  சக்கரங்கள் எங்கிருந்து தோன்றுகின்றன என்பதைக் கூற முடியாது.  அவை சூட்சும உடலில் இருக்கின்றன.  இதையே அகத்தியர் அவற்றின் மூலம் நதி மூலம் ரிஷி மூலம் போல அறிய முடியாதது என்கிறார்.  மாயையில் சிக்கிக் கொள்ளாமல் இந்த  உண்மைகளைப் பார்க்குமாறு சிவ போதத்தைத் தேடுமாறு அகத்தியர் புலத்தியரிடம் கூறுகிறார்.

இப்பாடல், லிங்கம் என்பது ஆண்குறி என்றும் பீடத்துடன் கூடிய லிங்கம் ஆண் பெண் குறிகளின் இணைப்பு என்றும் நிலவும் தவறான கருத்தைத் தகர்த்தெறிகிறது.
