203. Only the smart can identify them!

Verse 203

காரப்பா வெகுநாளாய் காக்கக் காக்க

கவடகுரு ஆனதினால் வெகுநாள் செல்லும்

சேரப்பா சமயம் வந்தால் சொல்லுவார்கள்

திறமாகச் சொல்லிவிட்டால் எல்லாம் சொல்வார்

ஆரப்பா இவருடனே படுவார் என்று

அகல நீ போய்விட்டால் சனிபோச்சென்பார்

சீரப்பா இவர் கவடம் அறிவுள்ளோர்தான்

சிவசிவ நிசக்குரு சொல்லுவேனே

Translation:

Wait with focus patiently son,

As he is an artful guru it will take many days

Join him, he will tell when the right time comes

When they say efficiently they will tell everything

“Who will put up with him!” saying so

If you leave him and go away, he will say “good riddance”

Only the smart ones can recognize his guile

Siva siva!  I will tell you about a true guru.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar is talking about a nontraditional guru here.  They remain pretending to be worldly people.  One has to wait patiently as they slyly conceal their true identity.  When they decide to talk, they will reveal everything.  However, one has to remain patiently with them.  If one gets frustrated and leaves him seeing his antics then the guru will say “good riddance” and go their way.  Agatthiyar says that only smart people can identify such gurus.  He promises to talk about a true guru next.

We have heard of several siddhas who pretend to be beggars and mad men to drive away those who are not truly interested in knowing the Divine.  Their words are harsh, methods are torturous and one has to patiently wait with them until they decide the right time to confer the wisdom.  As they are roaming around in a false garb it is hard for anyone to recognize them.

இப்பாடலில் சாதாரண மக்களைப் போல தோற்றமளிக்கும் குருவைப் பற்றி அகத்தியர் கூறுகிறார்.  அவர்கள் உலகததோரைப்போலக் காட்சியளிப்பதால் மக்களை அவர்களை எளிதாகக் கண்டுணர்வது இல்லை.  அவர்களது வார்த்தைகள் கடுமையானவையாகவும் அவர்களது முறைகள் கொடுமையாகவும் இருப்பதால் மக்கள் யாரால் எவருடன் போராடமுடியும் என்று அகன்று விட்டால் அவர்கள் “விட்டது சனியன்” என்று கவலையற்று இருப்பார்கள்.  ஆனால் தகுதியானவர்கள் வந்தால் அவர்கள் பேசலாம் என்று முடிவு செய்தால் அனைத்து அறிவையும் அந்த சீடருக்கு புகட்டுவார்கள் என்று கூறும் அகத்தியர் அடுத்து உண்மையான குருவைப் பற்றிக் கூறுவதாக புலத்தியரிடம் சொல்கிறார்.

பல சித்தர்கள் பைத்தியக்காரனைப் போலவும் பிச்சைக்காரனைப் போலவும் தோற்றத்தைப் பூண்டு அரைகுறை விருப்பத்துடனும் விசுவாசத்துடனும் தன்னிடம் வருபவர்களை கடுமையான மொழியாலும் கொடுமையான செயல்களாலும் விரட்டியடிப்பதைப் பற்றி நம்மில் பலர் கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கிறோம்.  இந்த சித்தர்களை அறிவுள்ளோரால்தான் கண்டுணர முடியும்.
