130. They are like blade of grass

Verse 130

சொல்லென்றால் புலத்தியனே பத்தியோனே

சூக்ஷமதை யான் விரித்துச் சொல்லுவேன் கேள்

கல் என்ற பல நாளுங் கற்றுக் கொண்டு

காதலாய் சீவனத்தால் பொய்கள் பேசி

வல் என்ற பெரியோரை மதங்கள் பேசி

வந்தாலும் உபதேசப்படி நில்லாமல்

புல் என்ற புல்லப்பா மாள்வதாலும்

பெரிதப்பா முன் உரைத்த பேச்சு மேலே

Translation:

Pulatthiya! The One with devotion! When you wanted me to say

I will describe in detail, the subtlety, listen,

Learning for several days, those that should be learned,

With great desire for living, speaking lies,

Speaking ill and insulting great souls,

Even if they receive advice they do not abide by it,

They are nothing but blade of grass, that dies.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar talks about people who read for the sake of acquiring knowledge that they can use to make a living, who say countless lies to survive, who insult great souls and do not stand by the upadesa they receive.  Agatthiyar calls them blades of grass that die out easily.  He then adds that what he spoke before with Pulatthiyar were important topics.

இப்பாடலில் அகத்தியர் வாழ்க்கைக்கு ஒரு வழியாக படித்து, வாழ்வதற்குப் பல பொய்களைச் சொல்லி பெரியோர்களை இழிவாகப் பேசி உபதேசம் பெற்றாலும் அதைக் கடைப்பிடிக்காத மக்களைப் பற்றிப் பேசுகிறார்.  அவர்கள் புல்லைப் போன்றவர்கள், எளிதில் இறந்துவிடும் அற்பர்கள் என்று அவர் கூறுகிறார்.  மேலும், தான் இதுவரை கூறியவை மிக முக்கியமான விஷயங்கள் என்றும் அவர் கூறுகிறார்.
