Verse 160

நடக்கும் வழி

கேளப்பா புலத்தியனே தொண்டு செய்து

கிருபையுடன் நூல் கொடுத்தால் மிகவும் நன்று

வாளப்பா தனம் கொடுத்து நூல் வந்தக்கால்

மகத்துவங்கள் என்னவென்றால் ரெண்டாம் பக்ஷம்

தாளப்பா இரண்டும் விட்டுச் சண்டை போட்டு

சமத்தாக வாங்கினால் உதவாதையா

கோளப்பா திருடினால் சித்தி இல்லை

குரு நூலுக்கிது உறுதி கண்டு தேறே

Translation:

The way to act

Listen Pulatthiya!  If he gives the book

After service, it is very good

It is a sword, When the book is obtained through payment of wealth

Then the glory is only second best

It is a mere parchment, if one leaves these two methods

And obtains the book through a fight. It will be useless

Understand this.  If it is obtained by stealing then no siddhi

This is definite for this gurunool (book of wisdom), realize this.

Commentary:

Agatthiyar lists three ways in which one may attempt to possess meijnanam.  Some will serve the Guru and obtain the knowledge from him.  This is the best method.  Some may attempt to buy it by offering money, wealth.  This is only second best.  The third is the worst method, obtaining through fighting with the owners.  It will be useless, like a piece of parchment.  The last method is the most deplorable one, that of stealing it from the owners.  Agatthiyar says that if one attempts this method, one would not get any siddhi at all.  It will only earn the person a curse.  Agatthiyar swears that this is true for this book of wisdom.

மெஞ்ஞானம் என்னும் இந்த நூலை மூன்றுவிதங்களில் பெறலாம் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.  அவற்றில் குருவுக்கு சேவை செய்து அவரிடமிருந்து பெறுவதே மிக்க நல்லது.  அதனை அடுத்தது நூலை விலைக்கு வாங்குவது.  மூன்றாவது அதை சண்டைபோட்டுப் பெறுவது.  இது நல்ல முறையல்ல என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.  ஆனால் இதைவிட தாழ்ந்தது அதைத் திருடுவது.  இதைத் திருடி அடைந்தால் ஒரு சித்தியும் கிட்டாது என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.  இது சத்தியம் என்று மேலும் வலியுறுத்துகிறார்.
