53. The events that occur when the prana is at the ajna

Verse 53

Translation:
If we climb on the intoxication that rises
What can I say!  The sound of the nādagiri (peak of primordial sound)
Son! Removing all the dirt within
Ara harā! Going within the nādagiri
Due to the good fortune of consuming the fruiting black gooseberry fruit,
The form due to the jewel of the arena of the beyond
If offered immediately, there occurs enchantment
If the body returns- enjoy the victory.

Commentary:
In the previous verses Agatthiyar described how to direct the prana, the vital breath, through the sushumna nadi and raise it to ajna.  This process causes enchantment.  If one follows this procedure he will hear sounds or nadha.  The yogin removes the dirt or mala in him so that he goes beyond even ahamkara.  When the yogin goes to the state of nadha and consumes the divine nectar that Agatthiyar calls black gooseberry fruit.  This good fortune will grant the yogin a form due to the ajapa bead or jewel.  Ajapa refers to the state beyond sound.  When this state is reached enchantment occurs.  This is called ananda aaspadham.  However, the yogin should not lose himself in this flood of bliss.  He should consciously return to his body consciousness.  This is true success.

In the Siddha parlance mani, mantra and aushadha play a very big role in transformation.  Of these mani ususally refers to rasamani or mercury preparations.  In general, mani represents that which can direct the spirit to higher planes of consciousness.   The mani that Agatthiyar refers to here is the transformative power of the state of supreme consciousness.  This may also refer to the state of bindu, the source of all forms.   Agatthiyar refers to this mani in several verses later.  The yogi merges himself within the mani, that is, reach the primordial sound and primordial form. This state is not a permanent state. The aspirant has to return to his ground state, to his body!
This process of raising one’s consciousness to the elevated state and returning back to one’s body-conscious state, according to Agatthiyar, is victory or success in yoga.  This is the most difficult and most esoteric travel fraught with dangers en route.

  2. yes, The mani may also mean the bindu. one unites one's existence in the form with this and crosses the barriers of nada and bindu and then returns to the body! did not see this until now!
