82. Glory of the panchakshara

Verse 82

பஞ்சாட்சரப் பெருமை

அஞ்சான எழுத்தினது பெருமை கேளு

அருள் பெருகும் புலத்தியனே உனக்காய்ச் சொல்வோம்

சஞ்சாரம் பூமிசையில் வளரும் நித்திரை

தண்ணீரும் அனல்தேயுவாய்வாகாசம்

மிஞ்சாமல் தத்துவத்துள் அடக்கிச் சொன்னேன்

வேதமோ டாகமங்கள் குறுக்கிச் சொன்னேன்

நெஞ்சாரம் அஞ்செழுத்தின் நிலையைச் சொன்னேன்

நினைவாச்செய்யும் தொழில் சொன்னேன் இரண்டைக் கேளே

Translation:

Listen to the glory of the five letters

Grace will flow, Pulatthiya!  I am telling for your sake

Roaming in the world will grow the slumber. 
Water, fire, tejus, air and akasha

I explained, containing them, not exceeding the principles.

I explained, condensing the Veda and Agama.

I told the status of the five letters up to heart's satisfaction (the jewel of the heart)

I told about the jobs done with awareness, hear about the two. 

Commentary:

Agatthiyar starts to describe the glory of the five letters, namacivaya, in this verse.  He is explaining everything in the context of these five letters.  Roaming in this world means birth and sleep is the gap that occurs between two births.  During that time the soul remains inactive waiting for the next birth in the karma bhumi, the earth.  Agatthiyar tells Pulatthiyar that the five letters stand for the five elements, earth, water, fire, air and space.  Tirumandiram explains this as follows: na-earth, ma- water, si-fire, va- air and ya- space.
Namasivaya is the essence of the Vedas and Agamas.  It is the jewel of the heart.  Jobs done with awareness means the different states of consciousness.  Agatthiyar says that he will point out two of those.

இப்பாடலில் அகத்தியர் நமசிவய என்ற ஐந்தெழுத்தின் மகிமையை விளக்க ஆரம்பிக்கிறார்.  சஞ்சாரம் என்பது இவ்வுலகில் பல்வேறு உயிர்களாகப் பிறந்து அல்லாடுவது, நித்திரை என்பது இரு பிறவிகளுக்கு இடைப்பட்ட பொழுது.  அப்போது ஆத்மா செயல்புரியும் திறமையின்றி இந்த உலகில், கர்ம பூமியில் அடுத்த பிறவிக்குக் காத்திருக்கிறது. 

நமசிவய என்ற ஐந்தெழுத்துக்கள் எவ்வாறு பஞ்ச பூதங்களாக, வேதம் மற்றும் ஆகமங்களின் சாரமாக இருக்கிறது என்பதைத் தான் புலத்தியருக்கு விளக்குவதாக அகத்தியர் கூறுகிறார். திருமூலர் தனது திருமந்திரத்தில் ந என்பது பூமி தத்துவத்தையும், ம- நீர் தத்துவம், சி- அக்னி தத்துவம், வ- காற்று தத்துவம் மற்றும் ய- ஆகாயத் தத்துவம் ஆகியவையாக இருக்கின்றன என்று கூறுகிறார். இந்த ஐந்தெழுத்துக்கள் இதயத்தின் ஹாரமாக, அணிகலனாக இருக்கின்றன.  அவையே உணர்வோடு செயல்புரியும் ஐந்து உணர்வு நிலைகளாக இருக்கின்றன.  அந்த ஐந்தும் ஜாக்ரத், சுவப்னம், சுஷுப்தி, துரியம், துரியாதீதம் என்பவை.  இவற்றில் இரண்டைச் சுட்டிக் காட்டுகிறேன் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.
