75. Pulatthiyar's lament- புலத்தியரின் புலம்பல்

Verse 75

தான் என்றீர் என் குருவே நடன வாழ்வே

தர்க்கம் இட்டான் பிள்ளை என்று தள்ளிடாமல்

கான் என்ற கொங்கணர்க்கு நிலையைக் கேட்டால்

கானகத்தில் வைத்த பொருள் போலே சொன்னீர்

ஊன் என்ற பேர் எடுத்தால் பேரைக் கேட்டால்

ஊரினிடப் பேர்உரைத்த உகமை ஆச்சு

வான் என்ற ஆகாயம் எங்கே என்றால்

மகத்தான பூமி என்ற வகைபோல் ஆச்சே

Translation:

You told me Guruve!  The life of the dance

Without dismissing me as an argumentative person

When questioned about Konkanar’s status

You explained it like an object placed in the forest (difficult to find)

When asked about that which took took the name as body,

It was as if the name of the town was said,

When questioned, “Where is the sky, the space?”

It was as if answered, “Here is the great earth?”.

Commentary:

Pulatthiyar is complaining to Agatthiyar that the details that Agatthiyar gave were out of context.  He says that when he asked Agatthiyar about the soul, that which took the name as a particular body, Agatthiyar described about the body not the soul.  This is like giving the name of the town when the name of the person was asked. The town is the body, the person is the soul that lives in that town.  Pulatthiyar says when he was asking Agatthiyar about the sky he was talking about the earth.  He says all the explanations he got from Agatthiyar were like placing an object in the forest, almost impossible to comprehend or find out the answer for the question.  
He requests Agatthiyar to not dismiss him as a complaining person but to answer his questions more specifically. 

இப்பாடலில் புலத்தியர் தான் ஒன்றைப் பற்றிக்கேட்க அகத்தியர் மற்றொன்றை விளக்கியுள்ளார் என்று புலம்புகிறார்.  இதற்கு உவமையாக, புலத்தியர் உடல் என்றால் என்ன என்று கேட்டால் அகத்தியர் ஓர் பெயரையுடைய உடலான கொங்கணரைப் பற்றிக் கூறினார்.  இது ஒரு மனிதனின் பெயரைக் கேட்டால் அந்த ஊரின் பெயரைச் சொல்வதைப் போல உள்ளது.  ஊர் என்பது உடல், அங்கு வாழும் மனிதன் ஆத்மா.  புலத்தியர் வானம் என்றால் என்ன என்று கேட்டபோது அகத்தியர் பூமியைப் பற்றி விளக்கியுள்ளார் என்று புலம்புகிறார்.   அகத்தியர் தன்னை தர்க்கம் செய்பவன் என்று தள்ளிவிடாமல் தனது கேள்விகளுக்கு பதிலளிக்குமாறு அவரை வேண்டுகிறார்.
