62. Who will get a good wife and who won't.

Verse 62

பாரப்பா புண்ணியர்க்கு நலப்பெண்டாகும்

பாவியர்க்குக் குணம் கெட்ட மடந்தை என்றும்

சேரப்பா அவள் தனக்குப் புதல்வன் என்றும்

செத்தவர்க்குக் கொள்ளிகுடம் உரிமை என்றும்

பேரப்பா கபடமதாய் வேதம் சேர்த்து

புலத்தியனே தெரியாமல் மறைத்து வைத்தார்

ஆரப்பா அவன் சமத்தோ உலகம் ஆச்சு

அரகரா என் சமத்தோ அருமை தானே

                        

Translation:

See son, good souls will get good wives

For the evil, wife with bad qualities

Associate with her and you will get a son through her

Funeral fire and the water pot for the dead

See son, by adding the deceit as Veda

Pulatthiya! They kept it concealed

Hey!  His smartness became the world

Araharā my smartness is special isn’t it!

Commentary:

Agatthiyar describes other points of deceit.  People have established assumptions that good people will get good wives and those who are evil will get only evil ones.  Through a wife one gets a son who has the sanction to perform death rites such as starting the funeral pyre with the fire and carrying a broken pot during the funeral procession.  Agatthiyar says that people have created all these fallacies saying that these ideas are the essence of Veda, knowledge.  They have smartly concealed the truth.  Their smartness is seen as the worldly happenings while Agatthiyar’s smartness is very special.

அகத்தியர் பிற ஏமாற்றுக்களை இப்பாடலில் கூறுகிறார். நல்லவனாக ஒருவன் இருந்தால் அவனுக்கு நல்ல மனைவி கிடைப்பாள் அவ்வாறு இல்லாதவனுக்கு குணம் கெட்ட பெண்டாட்டி தான் அமைவாள்.  அதாவது "மனைவி அமைவதெல்லாம் இறைவன் கொடுத்த வரம்!" அவளுடன் அவன் கூடினால் ஒரு மகன் பிறப்பான்.  இந்த மனிதன் இறக்கும்போது அம்மகன் அவனுக்குக் கொள்ளி வைப்பான் உடைந்த சட்டியை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு மயானத்துக்கு செல்வான் என்றும் எண்ணற்ற சடங்குகளை ஏற்படுத்தி, இவற்றைத்தான் வேதம் போன்ற பழம் நூல்கள் கூறுகின்றன என்று சொல்லி, உண்மையைக் காணவிடாமல் மறைத்திருக்கின்றனர் என்கிறார் அகத்தியர்.  இத்தகைய தவறான கொள்கைகளின் அடிப்படையில் உலகம் இயங்குகிறது. ஆனால் தனது சமத்து மிக விசேஷமானது என்று அவர் கூறுகிறார்.
